ABECEDARIO AMERICANO
Auditorium della Stella
August 25, h 21.00
August 26, h. 18.00 and h. 21.00
August 27, h. 18.00
Abecedario Americano, a play by Director Giancarlo Sepe, will be staged at Spoleto’s Auditorium della Stella on August 25, 26 and 27. The show will portray US society at the end of World War II, its economic and cultural growth after the great depression of the 1930s.
Through American major literary authors, such as Steinbeck, Caldwell, O’Henry, O’Hara, Twain, Fitzgerald, Mansfield and many others, and the fundamental contribution of music and songs by Romberg, Lerner and Loewe, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, the show will outline a likely story of the American family of that time, dealing with war events, defeats and victories, economic boom and cultural growth; the tragedies of a nation whose youngsters were always on the alert for a new conflict, or had to handle with the difficulties of reintegrating into a society who ran fast and did not pay them proper attention; the stories of ordinary people who lived passions and betrayals, births and deaths with the same vital emphasis, fearing the next war that would separate husbands, children and brothers from their families, creating pain, jealousy and revenge, as well as family dissipation. The American dream, which is still so alive today, clashes in fact with the instability of a world that is always on the verge of self-solving, where values have no meaning. The show is also inspired by some dialogues written for the best American cinema, musical theatre and American painting.

TREASURES FROM VALNERINA
The Dressed Up Madonnas
Mezz’ora dopo la chiusura, the event curated by Sistema Museo in collaboration with the National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto, awaits you on Friday 8 September 2017 at 19.30 at Rocca Albornoz with a guided visit entitled Treasures from Valnerina – The Dressed Up Madonnas.
The meeting is dedicated to the exhibition Tesori dalla Valnerina extended until November 5, 2017, which collects works from the territories affected by the 2016 earthquake and will be centred on the “statues to dress”, mannequins representing the Virgin or Saints, who were richly adorned with clothes and jewelry. This production, still little investigated, is a phenomenon of great interest both from an artistic point of view and for the knowledge of the history of costume, as well as because it symbolizes the devotion that popular tradition attributed to these simulacra.
The evening continues in one of the suggestive rooms of the fortress with a tasting of typical products and the new coffee line “Lavazza Firma”.

EXERCISES OF VILLAGE STORYTELLING IN UMBRIA

The event is organized by the Municipalities of Spoleto and Sant’ Anatolia di Narco, together with Cittadinanza Attiva, the Museum of hemp and the Municipal Library “G. Carducci “.

Two performances in an evening.
Under The Flesh by and with Bassam Abou Diab (Lebanon) presents a study focusing on cultures, body, death and rituals. What about Dante by and with Mounir Saeed (Egypt) is a work inspired by the Inferno of Dante’s Divine Comedy, mixed with the spiritualism of Sufism and the musicality of Christian hymns and oriental songs, aiming at a fusion between different cultures’ spirituality.
