“SPESSO PER ENTRO AL PETTO”
Women composers narrate the passions and ardours, the moods and affections of the female universe
Performed by women with music composed by women, the Concert will turn the spotlight on female figures such as Hildegard von Bingen, Francesca Caccini, Barbara Strozzi, Isabella Leonarda, Clara Schumann, Fanny Hensel, Cécile Chaminade, Elsa Olivieri Sangiacomo, Consuelo Velazquez and Maria Grever.
The aim is to rediscover and re-listen to musical pages written exclusively by musicians who are little known because they are obscured, sidelined and considered to be of lesser artistic importance. As in painting and science, in music too women weave their expressive sound plots, write lyrics, compose and make their personal music heard with refined works of considerable artistic value.
The concert ranges from central Europe medieval music, cultivated in women’s ecclesiastical convents, to the 16th century Florentine Dei Medici court, to the Italian Baroque period with the figure of Barbara Strozzi and the nun Isabella Leonarda, and explores the German Romanticism of Clara Schumann and Fanny Hensel, to the sensitivity and elegance of the French Impressionist music of Cécile Chaminade. Finally, it proposes Italian 20th century with Elsa Olivieri Sangiacomo, ending with two contemporary South American authors.
