Also known as the ‘onion fair’, it is the traditional meeting place for the people of the city’s countryside. Granted in 1598 by Clement VIII, it was originally held on 21 April and enjoyed special exemptions and immunity for eight days for everyone except bandits and rebels. In 1664 it was moved to 13 June, the feast of St Anthony of Padua, but retained all its privileges. Since unspecified times, it has been held on 8 and 9 September, on the occasion of the Nativity of the Virgin.

The event will take place on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 September from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. in Viale Trento e Trieste and neighbouring areas.

Goods for sale include: clothing, groceries, costume jewelry, books, housewares, textiles, footwear, leather goods, flowers, wicker goods and toys.
