
An exploration of the city’s hidden corners, curiosities, beauty and unknown stories, through which visitors will discover extraordinary works of art. The tour is organised by the Associazione Amici di Spoleto Onlus. Routes accompanied by tastings of Trebbiano Spoletino and other local products.

The Crypt of the Patron and Monumental Cemetery of Spoleto

Colle Ciciano has been a sacred place since ancient times, which can be testified by the presence of a pre-Roman burial site. The slopes of the site are home to the ancient crypt of San Ponziano, the remains of a Micaelico therapeutic sanctuary and the 18th-century Monumental Cemetery, a place for the burial of nobles that is immersed in the sacred silence of its cypress trees.

Villa Redenta and its Mysterious Park

Just outside the 14th-century city walls stands the neoclassical Villa Redenta. Built on the remains of a Roman settlement and lived in by important noble families over the centuries, the villa is surrounded by a lush, mysterious park filled with obelisks, mithraea, grottoes, sundials and centuries-old trees.

The Secret Waters of Spoleto, among sulphurous wells, fountains and nymphaea

Water is Spoleto’s eternal source of life. An itinerary to discover a city that has protected more than 50 public fountains and springs within its walls since the 14th century. Passing through the ancient mediaeval quarters we will discover an ancient vein of sulphurous water, courtyards and fountains of the city’s noble palaces, nymphaeums and a still active spring on Colle Sant’Elia.

Clitunno Spring and its Temple

The source of the river Clitunno, which follows the traces of the ancient lake Clitorio, offers a fascinating journey of discovery of its limpid waters and lush vegetation that has inspired poets and travellers through the ages. You will learn about its dedication to the God Jupiter Clitunno in Roman times and immerse yourself in its early Christian temple, the Church of San Salvatore (or Tempietto sul Clitunno), which marked the birth of a new style of religious eastern architecture. The church is a World Heritage Site.
The fee for the Spoleto tour is €15; that for the tour of Campello sul Clitunno is €20. An aperitif with typical products is provided at the end of each tour. Each tour lasts approximately 3 hours. Book while places available
