After the succesful 1st edition in 2015, Spoleto is again the stage for the 2nd National Choir Festival “Città di Spoleto”, organized by Pro Loco “A. Busetti” with the aim of offering the city a cultural event at international level. It features choirs from Umbria, Toscana, Marche and Lazio, selected after having taken part in a number of contests and festivals of absolute value.

This years it was decided to give particular space to youth ensembles and to unusual repertoires, that will flank the greatest ancient and contemporary standards. Artistic director is again Maestro Francesco Corrias.

Saturday 28 May will be opened by Coro Giovanile La Fenice of the Istituto Magistrale Statale “Elena Principessa di Napoli” in Rieti; conducted by the very Francesco Corrias, this choir participated in a number of domestic and international festivals and was invited to sing at the Sala Accademica del Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Next will be the turn of Umbria, represented by I Madrigalisti di Perugia, conducted by Mauro Chiocci, an ensemble specialized in sacred and secular repertoire dating to the Renaissance. The first night will be completed by the Coro Polifonico Città di Tolentino conducted by Aldo Cicconofri, a historical choir that has been winning international prizes and giving first performances of famous choir works, such as A. Ramirez’ Misa Criolla. Sunday 29 May will start with Cantoria Mevaniæ, ancient music ensemble from Bevagna conducted by Elga Ciancaleoni, with their performance in full costumes; then it’ll be the turn of CoroVoceincanto from Arezzo conducted by Gianna Ghiori; last but not least, the Ensemble Vocale FemminileNota Sò from Perugia, conducted by Marta Alunni Pini, with their unusual repertoire featuring middle-ages and ethnic music, will close the festival.
