SPOLETO IN SUMMER 2016

An international campus for actors from all over Europe, a chamber music festival, a series of choir concerts, the traditional dinner under the stars, three meetings of collective, no-stop readings: this is the program of Spoleto d’Estate that has been presented at Palazzo Mauri by Culture Councillor Gianni Quaranta. A schedule that integrates the other summer events that were already presented, such as the Spoleto Family Film Festival and the Ferragosto Spoletino organized by Pro-Loco.
The 2nd edition of the International Campus organized in Spoleto by the Silvio d’Amico Academy finishes Saturday 30 July. More than 60 students from the main European schools of theatre (Rome, Paris, Brno, Cordova, St Petersburg, Munich, Budapest) have taken part in four international workshops at the Complesso di San Nicolò and at the Teatrino delle 6, under the direction of European stage masters. Saturday 30 the works will be open to the public, and it will be possible to follow some phases of technical and interpretative work that the masters propose to the students. Here’s the schedule: 12.00 through 12.40, Teatrino delle 6, “Physical theatre”, led by Francesco Manetti and Monica Vannucchi of the Accademia “Silvio d’Amico”; 17.00 through 17.40, San Nicolò, “Greek Tragedy”, led by Victor Arditti (Greece) and Lina Salvatore (Italy); 17.40 through 18.20, San Nicolò, “The Traditional Chinese Opera”;18.30, San Nicolò, “La Commedia dell’Arte”, workshop led by Lorenzo Salveti and Michele Monetta. “Incontri Musicali” is a three-week chamber music festival that brings together young talents of classical music from all over the world under the artistic direction of Niccolò Muti. All concerts will be at the Basilica of Sant’Eufemia at 18:30, seven scheduled concerts starting on Friday 29 July and finishing on  Monday 15 August. Friday 29 July (G. Gershwin, F. Poulenc, O. Golijov, L.Cossart, M. Ravel), Sunday 31 July (E.Grieg, F. Mendelssohn/A.Reimann, F.Schubert), Friday 5 August (C. Loeffler, A. Scriabin, W.A.Mozart), Sunday 7 August (L. Janacek, R. Schumann, J.S.Bach), Thursday 11 August (P.I. Tchaikovsky, A. Pasculli, E. Chausson), Saturday 13 August (H. Villa Lobos, L. v. Beethoven, A. Lieberman, B. Britten), Monday 15 August (A. Schnittke , G.F. Handel, J. Brahms).
As for “UMBRIAN SERENADES – Choir Concerts in Umbria”, the first concert is scheduled for Friday 29 July at 18.00 by the Sala XVII Settembre inside the Teatro Nuovo, while that on Sunday 31 July will be at the Basilica di San Salvatore at 18.00.
The “Cena sotto le Stelle” of Thursday 4 August 2016 , organized by Associazione Il Borgo, will be the occasion for the prize-giving ceremony of the “Premio Spoleto Mastro Artigiano 2016”, a tribute to local artisans that contribute through their work to the image and economy of the city.
Included in the series of events aiming at reading promotion organized by the Public Library, in the second half of August there will be three meetings of collective, open-air reading, and a meeting on the senses that’ll include tales, tasting and reading. The two integral readings will be Jerome K. Jerome’s “Three Men In A Boat” and Arthur Conan Doyle’s “A Study In Scarlet”.
The meeting on senses “Il canto delle sirene” focuses on chant, that has always been flanking man’s voyage: excerpts and tales that, from the Odyssey onwards, talk of voyage-existence.
