Don Matteo – Director Alexis Sweet in Spoleto

On Thursday 11 January, director Alexis Sweet will be among the attendees at the public projection scheduled at 21 at San Nicolò.

Sweet, who directed some among the series’ most recent episodes, started his career in 1981. His many collaborations include cinema masters like Steven Spielberg, John Boorman, Ridley Scott, Nick Roeg, Richard Loncraine, Spike Lee, Mike Figgis, Tsui Hark, Hugh Hudson and others. From 1995 to 2003 he produced a number of documentaries set in Africa, and in 2002 he filmed some 100 spots in Italy, Romania, Germany, US, England, Kenya and the Middle East. A 2003 meeting with Pietro Valsecchi led to the direction of two seasons of the “RIS – Delitti Imperfetti” crime series. He lives in ROme.

Admission to the event is free, but due to seat availability, reservation is strongly encouraged (deadline is Thursday 11 at 17.30) by e-mailing to iat.spoleto@comunespoleto.gov.it or calling  0743.218620 (Mon through Sat from 9 to 13. 30 and from 14.30 to 18.15, Sundays and holidays 9.30 to 13).

The first two episodes are “The most beautiful mistake” and “Scenes from a marriage”, they show the city’s turmoil for the arrival of the new captain. An anxious Cecchini does not dare entering the police station; Don Matteo arrives and supports him, he shall not be sad for Tommasi’s departure, his undisputed experience will be needed by the new captain.

Don Matteo’s 11th season was shot in Spoleto and elsewhere from June to December 2017. It is an all-Italian successful format, first aired on 7 January 2000. The series enjoyed worldwide success since in inception, from France to Finland, from the US to Australia.
