The history of our city to the Spoletans of 2118
More than 270 parcels containing documents, incisions, drawings, from the salute of Regione Umbria president Catiuscia Marini, to the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale papers, boxe champion Gianni Burli‘s gloves, to the messages by vicemayor Maria Elena Bececco and bishop Renato Boccardo.
And then the many works by the students, books that show the city’s history, thoughts on today’s world, music by local artists and images of how we envision future changes, newspaper, even the last cigarette of a wannabe ex-smoker, along with the history of many people, families, firms that wanted to leave a sign to the Spoletans of 2118.
The ceremony took place this afternoon in Piazza del Mercato, two boxes created by Tecnokar in collaboration with engineer Luca Paolucci were interred, a treasure chest of memories of today’s Spoleto to pass on to future generations. A brass cobblestone created by Spoletan goldsmith Enrico Morbidoni now marks the exact place where the capsules were interred.
It was an actual city feast, participated by many and enhanced by the notes by the Banda musicale Città di Spoleto, violinist Federico Orazi, the singers of Piccolo Coro della Valnerina del Teatro Lirico Sperimentale and actors Fausto Manasse and Antonietta De Santis, who recited verses from Giacomo Leopardi’s “Le operette”.
After Boston, Blackpool, Olympia and the crypt of civilization at the Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA, Spoleto has thus joined the time capsule club, whose activities are listed by the International Time Capsule Society. The aim is to give space to imagination and dreams, so that the story of our time can be as exhaustive as possible for those who will come after us.
