MM Contemporary Dance Company in Schubert Frames and Gershwin Suite

Saturday Jan 12 (Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti, Spoleto) and Sunday, Jan 13 (Teatro Manini in Narni), the MM Contemporary Dance Company directed by Michele Merola presents a show that combines two of its best productions, Schubert Frames and Gershwin Suite.

In the first part, choreographer Enrico Morelli has entrusted his work to the extraordinary music of Franz Schubert: no one better than the Viennese composer could interpret the conflicting feelings of love, tension, melancholy, regret, but also hope. Famous pieces by Schubert from masterpieces of infinite beauty are the soundtrack to this work dedicated to the many souls of contemporary man, where love gives way to disillusion, separation to sharing, passion to fear, and vice versa, in a to-and-fro between crescendoes and diminuendoes, revealing entire universes and secret ties. The choreography only lives of the richness determined by the musical inspiration: Schubert Frames is an abstract tale of loneliness and related souls, in an age like ours, tired, cloudy, disenchanted, tormented by a malaise that you breathe in the air, but also anxiously looking for a sense and a hope of happiness. A work full of poetic images, which become one with the music and marry its compositional richness by intimately binding itself to its inexhaustible variety and what it expresses.

In the second part Michele Merola, starting from the best songs by Gershwin and the suggestions coming from the pictorial works of American Edward Hopper, presents Gershwin Suite, whose soundtrack antagonizes the most captivating pages of the author, including Summertime and Rhapsody in blue. But it is not only the lush and lively music that attracts the choreographer: Merola chooses Gershwin’s music in its various facets, not only the most euphoric and brilliant songs, but also the most romantic and intimate, sensual and seductive ones.
