In collaboration with La Francia in Scena (an artistic season of the Institut français Italia realised on the initiative of the French Embassy in Italy, with the support of the Institut Français and Fondazione Nuovi Mecenati), Comune di Spoleto, Polo Museale dell’Umbria, Rocca Albornoziana Museo Ducale di Spoleto, Teatro Romano Museo Archeologico di Spoleto, Regione Umbria, Teatro Stabile dell’Umbria, Filarmonica Umbra.

“Rendez Vous” is a project for the enhancement of heritage and environment through Dance and Art.

From Thursday 23 May to 30 December, “Rendez Vous une Danse pour la Terre” will take place in Spoleto, organised by Rendez Vous – Associazione Evidanse under the artistic direction of Carole Magnini. The first event is scheduled, starting at 16.30, at the Rocca Albornoz inside the National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto, with the projection of the film “Gestes-Danser la Terre”, a path “in Dance” of our region, for the enhancement through the Art of the still numerous riches of the territory.

“The project dedicated to the sites of the earthquake began in 2016 – explained Carole Magnini during the press conference this morning at the Literary Café in Palazzo Mauri – and in recent years has seen the participation of several French choreographers and dancers who have come to Umbria to create dance performances in situ, that is, designed for the places of the earthquake. The film that we will present at the Rocca in Spoleto documents all this work, and this first screening will be followed by many other events in Spoleto, around Umbria and then in France until December”.

The projection will be premiered in Spoleto and then repeated in some cities of the Valnerina and other symbolic places of the territory, in various sites of the Polo Museale dell’Umbria, in other cities of Umbria and Italy, and then in France.

“It is a beautiful project that Carole Magnini has been working on for two years,” said councillor for culture of the City of Spoleto Ada Urbani, “also thanks to the support of the French Cultural Institute in Rome, which has included it in its Italian exhibition ‘France on Stage’, and it will also be taken to France.

Rendez Vous is an artistic container that since 2012 has been offering performances and artistic, cultural and educational projects, staging both young emerging artists and public schools, as well as nationally and internationally renowned personalities. It is a space for raising awareness and appreciation of the city’s landscape, cultural and artistic heritage, for the resident public and tourists, taking place mainly in monuments, museums, heritage sites, urban spaces, natural spaces, bringing dance out of conventional places and meeting the public.

The director of the National Museum of the Duchy, Paola Mercurelli Salari, also attended the press conference: “On Thursday 23 May, the Rocca will host the preview screening of the film that tells the story of the places in Umbria during and after the 2016 earthquake. I would like to thank Carole Magnini for having dedicated her attention to the Rocca, as well as to the Tempietto sul Clitunno and the Ducal Palace of Gubbio”.

The event, in collaboration with the French Embassy-Institut Français in Rome, is committed to reactivating or developing artistic, historical, cultural and tourist links between Italy and France.

French dance in support of the areas hit by the earthquake: French choreographers, personalities and artists including Christian Bourigault, Christine Gérard, Sophie Quénon, Nadia Vadori Gauthier, Frédérique Villemur, have mobilised themselves to reach the initiative through “Gestes” (Gestures), small unedited performances in the area, from near and far, towards the sites and populations hit by the earthquake.
The screening will be premiered in Spoleto and then repeated in some municipalities of the Valnerina and in other symbolic places of the area, in several sites of the Polo Museale dell’Umbria, in other cities of Umbria, Italy and France.

– Saturday 8th June, 5 p.m. (Spoleto): Gouttes d’eau – Travelling show through the fountains of Spoleto – Departure at 5 p.m. “Sasso” Fountain (Viale Matteotti Gardens), followed by Piazza Fontana, Fontana del Mascherone, final Piazza del Mercato Fountain.

OCTOBER
“Rendez Vous une Danse pour la Terre” – Heritage and Contemporaneity
“Rendez Vous Nacera Belaza” in collaboration with the French Embassy – Institut Français in Rome for Francia in Scena, an exhibition of the Institut Français in Italy.

– Friday 4 October at 5 p.m.: performance “Le Cri” – Rocca Albornoz Spoleto
Nacera Belaza (nominated Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres) is a choreographer, dancer and pedagogue who is emblematic of French Dance at an international level. She is a choreographer invited for the two editions of “Monuments en Mouvements”, a review of the French “Monuments Nationaux” with a creation at the Panthéon in Paris and another at the Cloître de La Psalette in Tours.

– Saturday 5 October, from 11 am to 1 pm. Meeting with the artist, in collaboration with the Embassy’s Education Service. Location to be confirmed.
Show “Apocalypse – Re-Velation” (date and place to be confirmed)
A performance-Testimony in dance: Multimedia-Dance-Music-Video-Theatre. Archaeology of a present: inspired by the region, the sites and the encounters with the people of the area. A reflection on heritage, transformation and resilience…
Apocalypse: from the Greek, it means throwing away what is covered, removing the veil. It can arise in moments of extreme crisis to bring a message of hope.

“Rendez Vous Frédérique Villemur” – Between Spoleto and Perugia
Conference Dance In Situ and Architecture – “Le Rovine”: Transformation, mutation, destruction and reconstruction, landscape in motion…”. With illustrative live performance.

Frédérique Villemur is a specialist in Aesthetics, History and Theory of the Arts and in research in artistic disciplines (ENS-Ulm). Doctor of History (Diderot-Paris University 7), writer and consultant for the French Ministry of Culture, she teaches at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture Montpellier (ENSAM). She has been a lecturer in the Dance Architecture Spatiality project in Athens, Vicenza and Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert from which she has published three books (2013-2014-2015 – Éditions de l’Espérou).
