Fidapa BPW Italy, Spoleto Section presents the novel by Roman writer Marika Campeti, under the patronage of the City of Spoleto, on Friday 24 May at 6 p.m., at the Caffè Letterario in Palazzo Mauri, Via F. Brignone 14.

Campeti’s novel debuted last summer at the Terracina Book Festival, and since then it became a best seller for Apollo Edizioni in just a few months. Due to the value of the social issues represented, the writer is often invited to talk about them. The presentations are thus enriched by a social debate on important issues, such as gender violence, reflection on tolerance, the role of women in society and history, dialogue as a fundamental means to overcome fear and arrive at knowledge.
Fidapa BPW Italy presents the writer and her novel as the excellence of an all-female project. Woman is the writer, women are the four protagonists who are intertwined in the plot, woman is the director of Apollo Edizioni, Antonietta Meringola, and woman is painter Barbara Di Mauro who painted the canvas “The Secret” portrayed on the cover, an emotional painting that contains the feelings aroused in the artist after reading the novel.
The plot
The Secret of Vicolo delle Belle takes us on a journey through the medina of Tangier where Sarah, a girl fleeing her past, tries to heal the wounds of her soul by interweaving a relationship with Hossam, a mysterious carpet weaver who will make her experience the preparations for her Berber wedding, sweeping her away in a blinding passion. But her grandmother Sofia’s illness will bring Sarah back to Italy, and put her on the trail of a painful secret hidden in the ancient alleys of the city of Terracina. It is there that she will go, to discover the truth about her grandmother’s past, breathing in the dusty scent of an unutterable secret. On 4 September 1943, the city of Terracina was attacked from the sky: under the bombing, the destinies of two women will be forever intertwined. It is Nina who leaves the traces of an unmentionable sin: a woman hidden among the high stairs of Vicolo delle Belle, who weaves mercilessly the destiny of future generations.
A story full of tension and twists, clandestine passions, lustful sighs, impossible loves, denied roots and invisible prisons.

Biography of the Author:
Marika Campeti was born in Rome in 1979 and graduated in 2002 in Performing Arts and Sciences. After graduating, she worked in television and film post-production before dedicating herself to oriental dance, which she is still known for under her stage name “Suhayma”. She currently works in health communication for the Asl Roma 4, where she has been working since 2008. She published the poem Oblio solitario in the anthology of erotic poetry for women Ti bacio in bocca (2004), and won second place at the “Premio di poesia maggio Pontelungano” in 2005 with In silenzio noi due.
