Walking Through The Olive Groves

National Day of Walking among the Olive Groves
Sunday 27 October. An 8km walk between the Martani Mountains

For the third year in a row, the City of Spoleto has joined the ‘National Walk of the Olives Day’, an event promoted by the National Association of Oil Cities with the aim of spreading the culture of olive and olive oil quality, the protection and promotion of the environment and the olive-growing landscape and the spread of the history of olive-growing.
The appointment is scheduled for Sunday, October 27th: this is a walk dedicated to families and enthusiasts who will see the Martani Mountains and specifically the village of Ocenelli, the starting and arrival point of the excursion. Full of history, mysticism, religiosity, art, nature and silence, the route, included in the excursion project of the “Martani Trekking”, will touch on important urban and religious settlements such as the Castello de La Costa and the Hermits of Sant’Onofrio and San Girolamo, which will be exceptionally open and subject to guided tours.

The track, of about 8 km, mainly insists on levels that rangebetween 400 and 600 meters, overcoming uneven slopes, which make it well usable for hikers with a good basic preparation. Upon arrival, the Association of Territory and Traditions Cima Panco, at the Ex-school of Ocenelli, currently used as an exhibition centre for local products and for welcoming visitors, will delight participants with a tasting of typical local products and with the new oil from the Martani Hills. The day will be enlivened by “Le Cinciallegre”, a traditional folkloristic singing group from Spoleto, which will retrace, through popular songs, the stories and traditions linked to the olive harvest.

Meeting: piazza Polvani (railway station) at 8.30 am with shuttle service or at 9.00 am at Ocenelli with own vehicles
