Two routes organized in Spoleto to learn about the city’s fountains and ancient wash houses
Fountains and ancient wash-houses in Spoleto can sometimes become the goal of the journey, sometimes the discovery of true works of art or an excuse to undertake a journey to discover the city, from the access doors of the Middle Ages walls up to the acropolis, crossing alleys, courtyards and hidden corners and discovering traditions, forgotten activities and curiosities.
These are the points of interest of the routes organized by the City of Spoleto on the occasion of the XVI National Urban Trekking Day, dedicated to the theme “Slow Whispers of Water and History“, scheduled for Thursday, October 31st 2019.
Two routes are planned. The first will start Oct 31 at 15.00 from Via San Carlo – Porta Monterone and will arrive in Via Saccoccio Cecili. The route will last approximately 2 hours and 30 for a length of 2.300 Km. The starting point of the second, scheduled for November 1 at 10.00, will be via Ponzianina (beginning of the mechanized route escalator) and will arrive in Via Interna delle Mura. Also in this case the journey time will be around 2 hours and 30 for a route that will be 2 Km long.
With the two routes proposed, led by a competent and passionate guide of your city, you will cross the whole historical center; up and down on foot through the ancient streets (using escalators), you will be able to appreciate ancient works and more recent artifacts and discover the existence of unexpected fountains. With an eye on the beauty and an ear stretched to listen to ancient and forgotten noises, Spoleto will also be discovered as a city of healthy mountain waters to be savored.
