Friday 31 January special appointment with Visioni D’Autore, the format organized by the City of Spoleto in collaboration with Maia Cultural Association and Cinéma Sala Pegasus. At 21:00 Andrej A. Tarkovskij will be guest in the Sala Pegasus for the presentation of the documentary “Andrej Tarkovskij. Cinema as prayer “: the life and works of the brilliant director told by his son, with period photos and videos, unpublished audio recordings and filming on the places lived by Tarkovsky in Russia, Sweden and Italy. The film, previewed at the last Venice Film Festival, is distributed in Italy by Lab 80 film and is a careful and exciting story of the work and life of the artist whose films are considered masterpieces of world cinema. The film tells about his life and works, leaving the word to the director himself who shares his memories, his gaze on art, the reflections on the artist’s destiny and on the meaning of human existence. The film includes very rare audio recordings and unpublished recordings of poems by Arsenij Tarkovskij, father of the director and considered one of the greatest Russian poets of the twentieth century, who with his work has profoundly influenced his son’s cinema. The images are made up of fragments taken from the original films, vintage photo and video materials and shots taken on the places of Tarkovsky’s life and sets in Russia, Sweden and Italy, his adoptive homeland. The director, Andrej A. Tarkovskij said: «There have been many original attempts to explain the Tarkovsky phenomenon in contemporary art. But what did Tarkovsky think of it? Where did your inspiration come from? What did you want to communicate to the people who saw your films? These were the objectives that I set for making the film, to bring the viewers to the origins of his thought and to share the emotion of meeting again the great artist, man and mentor who was my father ».
