More than 100 organisers, programmers, artists, musicians, singers from different parts of the world.
Saturday 30 January live streaming on https://weather-swados.net and the Weather YouTube channel.
Not only an artistic, educational project, but also a way of creating a community to give body and voice to environmental issues. This is the profound sense of “Weather Spoleto 2020”, which started with the video conference on 19 November, 2020, and went into full swing with the appointments of its five pillars Kids4weather, the Workshop of Spoleto paper companies for the fight against climate change, the fauna 2021 conference, the webinar Last CALL, and will reach its climax on Saturday 30 January 2021 with the online premiere of the multimedia work.
The project, which was strongly supported by the Spoleto City Council’s Environment Department with the aim of bringing together environmental issues with the communicative power of art and culture, involved organisations and associations in Italy and abroad: from the Festival of Two Worlds to the Istituto superiore per la protezione e la ricerca ambientale (ISPRA), the Seoul Institute of the Arts, New York and Seoul Culture Hub, Yorb, La MaMa Umbria International, C.U.R.A., the Australian Vrty, the association Bisse, Arpa Umbria, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Spoleto, Associazione Teriologica Italiana and Carabinieri Forestali del Reparto Biodiversità di Assisi.
Weather Spoleto 2020, sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment and by PEFC Italy, is the first event in Umbria to receive sustainability certification in accordance with ISO 20121:2013, a result achieved thanks to the contribution of skills provided by architect Andrea Sillani, already a technical-scientific consultant of the Authority for EMAS registration and ISO 14001 certification, and engineer Livia Arcioni, energy manager of the City of Spoleto.
The multimedia work on environmental issues, which will be streamed on 30 January 2021, is a pilot experience combining the artistic, cultural, scientific, technological and environmental skills and experience of over 100 people including programmers, artists, musicians, singers, performers and technicians from different parts of the world.
“It is a goal that further defines the action of the City of Spoleto, allowing us to pursue increasingly high-performing and environmentally significant objectives – said councillor Maria Rita Zengoni – Despite the efforts we have made in recent years to maintain the EMAS certification, which enabled us to obtain the communication award last year, we have not stopped, involving other parties such as La MaMa Umbria International and the Bisse association and fully adhering to the sustainable management system envisaged for events by ISO 20121:2013.”
WEATHER# was composed by Elizabeth Swados on a text by Filippo Consales, aims at raising public awareness through art on the issue of climate change and human impact on the natural world.
More than 100 organisers, programmers, artists, musicians, singers from different parts of the world worked together to create this work, reinterpreted as an online multimedia odyssey, which could overcome the restrictions of the difficult situation we are living in.
The public will be able to watch the event in a 360° online space, made up of 12 VR (Virtual Reality) environments, like the months of the year, to listen to the opera, discover the stories, as well as delve into the scientific or cultural references that emerge from the music.
It will be a deep, immersive experience that will tell something meaningful and let us reflect on our essence, on “who we are”.
WEATHER# will be premiered at the presence of the project’s partners and artists on 30 Jan 2021 at 3.00 pm (Amsterdam, Rome), 8.00 am (Mexico City), 9.00 am (New York), 2.00 pm (Dublin, London), 11:00 PM (Seoul).
