The experience of “Spazio Collicola“, the summer arena set up in the courtyard of Spoleto’s eighteenth-century palace, is being renewed for the second year running and will host a series of films, shows and events throughout the summer.
The first three events of the programme are dedicated to cinema. On Monday 28th June at 9.30 p.m., Kristina Lindström and Kristian Petri’s docufilm “The Most Beautiful Boy in the World” will be screened. It is dedicated to the Swedish actor Bjorn Andrésen, who in 1971 gave life to the unforgettable figure of Tadzio, an archetype of sublime and fatal beauty, in Visconti’s adaptation of Thomas Mann’s masterpiece “Death in Venice”.

On Tuesday 29 June at 9.30 p.m. John Malkovich and Josh Hartnett are among the protagonists of “The Valley of the Gods“, the latest film by Lech Majewski, a versatile Polish artist (writer, composer, sculptor) who in this film recounts, with visionary glimpses and a kaleidoscope of references and imagery, a story that links the richest man on earth, a young writer in crisis and an ancestral Navajo legend.

The third appointment, on Wednesday 30 June at 9.30 pm, is a screening-meeting with the director Ilaria Freccia, who will present her documentary “La Rivoluzione siamo noi” (The Revolution is us), a testimony to the avant-garde and experimental ferments and the flourishing of international artists that marked an unrepeatable season in our country between the mid-1960s and the 1980s. A work already screened out of competition at the 2020 Torino Film Festival. The director will meet the audience at the end of the screening.

Spazio Collicola dedicates two evenings to Lucio Dalla with the screening, scheduled for Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 July at 9.30 p.m., of Pietro Marcello’s film “Per Lucio“, a visual and sound journey through the poetic and irreverent imagination of the Bolognese singer-songwriter.

In 1970, Luchino Visconti travelled the length and breadth of Europe in search of the perfect-looking boy who could embody absolute beauty in his film adaptation of Thomas Mann’s short story Death in Venice. He discovered Björn Andrésen in Stockholm, a shy 15-year-old who found himself in the international spotlight overnight and ended up spending a turbulent youth on the Lido, London, Cannes and Japan. Fifty years after Visconti’s premiere, Björn takes us on a journey through personal memories, film history, stardust and dramatic events. “In essence it is a film about reification and its effects on the person.” (Stina Gardell, producer).
La Rivoluzione siamo noi, Documentary, Italy, 2020, 83 minutes
Between the mid-1960s and 1980, art in Italy enjoyed a moment of glory on the international scene. Works left their frames to invade the world, entering streets and squares, garages and underground car parks, in an incredible interweaving with the everyday reality of the time. Italian gallerists and critics opened the doors to the most extreme international artists, such as Joseph Beuys, Herman Nitsch or Marina Abramovic, who found in our country opportunities to experiment with visionary and provocative languages with great freedom. The film recounts a period in which Italy was at the centre of the avant-garde.
