Umbria Ensemble: A Tribute to Astor Piazzolla

Spoleto d’estate | UmbriaEnsemble |
Saturday 21 August at 6.20 am | Rocca Albornoziana

Think of a majestic medieval fortress that dominates the Spoleto landscape, inviting you to immerse yourself in the cool, silent holm-oak woods of Monteluco; take the Italian passion for festivals and summer concerts, when the pleasure of getting together becomes a refined and lovely opportunity for spiritual enrichment; consider that special hue that lights up the dawns and sunsets of late summer days, still long with golden sunshine; dive, finally, into the great repertoire of classical music that knows no eclipses or sunsets: these are some of the elements that create the unpredictable and fascinating UmbriaEnsemble concerts at dawn.

As exceptional and solemn as the gesture of a secular religion inspired by Nature and human history, the stage will be set for the UmbriaEnsemble’s performance at Spoleto’s Rocca Albornoziana. At dawn on Saturday 21st, starting at 6.20 a.m., the Umbrian musicians in string quartet formation (Angelo Cicillini and Cecilia Rossi, Violins; Luca Ranieri, Viola; M. Cecilia Berioli, Cello), guests of the Spoleto d’Estate 2021 festival, will open the third edition of the Dawn Concerts in Spoleto with a tribute to Astor Piazzolla on the centenary of his birth. A powerful and subtle alchemy marries the austere stones of the medieval fortress to the music that comes to envelop them with tenderness, nostalgia, and passion; an alchemy that bypasses time and restores its essence in the suspended instant of a dawn.
