Last appointment, during the 45th edition of the Roma Jazz Festival, for the interdisciplinary project Jazz is a (video) game: after the great success at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome and at the Auditorium M9 – Museo del 900 in Mestre of the Young Art Jazz Ensemble conducted by Mario Corvini, it is the turn of Spoleto, where on Sunday 14 November at 6 pm the Colours Jazz Orchestra conducted by Massimo Morganti will perform at the Teatro Caio Melisso – Spazio Carla Fendi.

Jazz is a (video) game is a multimedia concert in which the ensemble will confront machinimas, works that lie at the crossroads between video art, experimental cinema and open source digital animation, created using fragments and sequences from famous videogames – such as GTA Gran Theft Auto, Flight Simulator, Traindrive, The Hunter, Chernobilyte, Backbone, The Longest Road on Earth. Jazz, a timeless language that moves fluidly from decade to decade, has always been able to interpret the social changes taking place, constantly relating to technological innovation (the gramophone, vinyl, cinema, video), determining a long and fruitful relationship with images and the visual dimension.

The music was composed by some of the members of the two orchestras, the Applied Music Course of the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia and the School of Higher Education of the Saint Louis Music College. At this precise moment in history, when young and very young musicians are freeing themselves from the past, taking a light-hearted approach to jazz, big bands and orchestral formations are increasingly becoming a place for planning and research, a means of spreading knowledge of this musical genre and involving new audiences.

The entire project is financed by the Ministry of Culture, supported by the IMF Foundation and promoted by three important cultural entities: Visioninmusica, Roma Jazz Festival and Venetojazz, members of the Associazione Nazionale Jazz Italian Platform. It is advised by the writer, lecturer and artistic director of the Milan Machinima Festival Matteo Bittanti and also sees the international participation of important videomakers such as Benoit Paillé, Jordy Veenstra, Riccardo Retez, Luca Miranda, Florian Krepcik and Ashford Philip Ciampà.
