The work by maestro Mario Agrestini will be visitable every day at the Auditorium della Stella till 14 January 2022

The largest life-size monumental nativity scene in Europe has been inaugurated and opened to the public. The work, made of terracotta, wood and papier-mâché by the nativity master Mario Agrestini, will be open to the public at the Auditorium della Stella until 14 January 2022.

“Today we are opening to the public a unique work of art, both in terms of the way it was created and its size,” said Danilo Chiodetti, the councillor responsible for promoting the culture, quality and beauty of the city and the territory “we would like to thank Maestro Agrestini for working on such an impressive staging.“

“I would also like to take this opportunity to reiterate the meaning that we wanted to give to the programme of events that will accompany us throughout the Christmas period,” added Councillor Chiodetti. “Sharing, particularly after a period that has deprived us of the opportunity to experience moments of aggregation, we believe should be the hallmark of this Christmas, an opportunity to get back together, living our community to the full.”

Maestro Agrestini was also present at the inauguration: “I strongly wanted to create this crib in Spoleto also to honour the origins of my father, a Spoleto native like you, and I thank Councillor Chiodetti and the city administration for supporting me from the beginning. What you see is the fruit of work that I have carried out over the last 40 years, reconstructing the ancient rural world“.

The clothing of the characters is partly hand-woven and partly from Jordan, as are all the accessories of both the characters and the animals present.

The work has already been exhibited in 2010 in Rome, in the Sala del Carroccio in the Campidoglio.

Europe’s largest monumental crib will be open until 14 January 2022 every day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
