A double event on the weekend, with a concert by the Piccolo coro del Lirico Sperimentale at San Nicolò (Saturday 26) and ‘La città in maschera’ (Sunday 27)

Inauguration of the exhibition ‘The history of the Spoleto carnival‘, which celebrates the more than 100-year history of this event with documents, float components and historical costumes.

Yesterday afternoon the exhibition was opened to the public at the Auditorium della Stella. It will be open until Tuesday 1 March every day from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays also from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Present at the event were the deputy mayor Stefano Lisci, councillor Danilo Chiodetti, the president of the Spoleto events association Angelo Gelmetti and Lorenzo Bisogni, 25-yo historian who collaborated by carrying out the research that made it possible to recover some of the documents on display.

During the presentation, President Gelmetti, in thanking all those who made the organisation of this 193rd edition possible, recalled the effort made over the last two years to try to guarantee events and initiatives despite the limitations linked to the health emergency. This concept was also reiterated by Lorenzo Bisogni, who then retraced the history of the Carnival, stressing “the importance of a methodological approach when trying to recover certain historical aspects through documentary research“.

Town councillor Danilo Chiodetti said: “A very interesting job was made, this exhibition is a real journey across the history of our Carnival through images, costumes and documents, pieces of a mosaic that an entire community has been able to create over the years“.

The second event on schedule will be held on Saturday 26 February at 5.30 p.m. at the Complesso Monumentale di San Nicolò, where there will be a concert by the “Piccolo coro del Teatro Lirico Sperimentale” conducted by maestro Mauro Presazzi.

New this year is the event scheduled for Sunday, 27 February, starting at 3 pm. “La città in maschera” is the name of the initiative that aims to involve the citizens in a masked walk through the streets and squares of the historic centre, where the street band Groowa Circus will perform.
