THE FAI GROUP OF SPOLETO PROPOSES “THE DUOMO OF SPOLETO AS YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN IT”.
A unique occasion to discover the Cathedral’s most hidden corners
Originally scheduled for last March 27, the visit was canceled due to technical hitches.
The guided tours, organised by FAI volunteers and storytellers from the Istituto d’Istruzione Superiore “Sansi – Leonardi – Volta”, will run from 10.30 to 17.30 with an interruption from 11.15 to 12.30 for the celebration of Holy Mass; during the interruption it will be possible to visit the crypt of San Primiano and the main artistic testimonies of Piazza del Duomo.
The visit, made possible by the kind collaboration of the Spoleto Archdiocese, will offer the extraordinary opportunity to see parts normally closed to the public. After an overview of the cathedral, visitors will move to the Chapel of St Anne, to admire the considerable remains of frescoes from the Romanesque cathedral. From here, the visit will move to the recently restored Cosmatesque floor and the extraordinary frescoes by Filippo Lippi that adorn the apse of the cathedral. After long restoring, it will also be possible to visit the crypt of San Primiano, one of the oldest examples of religious architecture in Spoleto. Finally, the visit will end with the privilege of looking out from the large terrace overlooking the Renaissance portico of the Cathedral, which is not normally open to the public, offering an incomparable view of Piazza del Duomo.
No reservation is required; visitors will be split into various groups which will be assigned one accompanying person; in case of excessive crowding, short intervals in the departure of groups will be possible.
