Fifty-three crews, eighty volunteers for security management, three giant screens to follow the live coverage of the trials and the race. These in brief are the numbers of the 56th Vaporetti Race presented at Palazzo Mauri, which this year will have two exceptional testimonials: actress and model Claudia Tosoni and actor Giulio Berruti.

This edition comes after a two-year stop due to the health emergency, marking the return of a traditional and historical event for the city. The route will be about 1600 metres long and will run from Piazza Pianciani to Piazza Garibaldi, passing through Via Walter Tobagi, Via Filitteria, Largo Beniamino Gigli, Via Vaita S. Andrea, Via Pierleone, Via Saccoccio Cecili and Via dell’Anfiteatro.

Attending the meeting with journalists were mayor Andrea Sisti, councillor Giovanni Angelini Paroli, Fabrizio Luchetti, president of the Vaporetti Spoleto association, Paolo Forti of the Vaporetti Spoleto association, and Roberto Bastianelli, president of Avis Spoleto.

“It was not easy to restart after the gap of 2020 and 2021,” explained president Luchetti, “but the response we received was excellent. We will present the crews and the misses in Piazza Duomo, a marvellous setting, and we are sure that also this time the participation and enthusiasm of the people of Spoleto and the tourists will be felt“.

The event is increasingly dedicated to young people, with 9 of the 53 competing crews in the Under 18 category – Tecnokar Trophy (44 those entered in the Senior category). “The fact that the Corsa dei Vaporetti is increasingly aimed at young people is a positive and fundamental aspect,” were the words of Mayor Sisti, “because we need to create more and more events and initiatives dedicated to them. As a child, I remember the rides we used to do in Terraja, building little Vaporetti ourselves and imitating the ride for fun. The success of the event stems from this sense of belonging and it will be a fixed appointment in the calendar of events we are building‘.

Councillor Giovanni Angelini Paroli also wished to emphasise the historicity of the race ‘to which I feel bound by fond family memories and experiences. I think this appointment says a lot about our enthusiastic and lively way of feeling an active part of the community. The willingness of the administration is total, and on our side there will always be full cooperation‘.

The programme was illustrated by Paolo Forti, the start will be on Saturday 11 June at 21.00 in Piazza Duomo with the presentation of crews, misses and competition numbers. Three days are scheduled (Friday 17, Saturday 18, and Sunday 19 June) for practice, qualifying heats, and the final. On Saturday 25 June at 8.00 p.m. at the Zengoni restaurant there will be the final dinner with the prize-giving ceremony and the election of ‘Miss Vaporetto 2022’.
