Tommaso Giartosio arrives in San Brizio di Spoleto

Writer, poet and radio host Tommaso Giartosio will kick off “Street Lessons. Space Readings” on Wednesday 13 July 2022 at 6.30 p.m. in the hamlet of San Brizio, where he will converse with the public on the theme “Memory and Oblivion“.
The initiative is held in collaboration with the San Brizio Proloco and is the first edition of a series of meetings in the area with writers and intellectuals included in the city’s review ‘Accade d’estate a Spoleto‘.
The event is devised by Serafino Amato with the scientific advise of Lorenzo Pavolini and the collaboration of Antonella Manni, has Dacia Maraini as its patroness and will see the protagonists of the street lectures arrive in the villages and hamlets on board a white van with a banner bearing the title of the initiative and which will be the co-star of the event. A travelling bookshop with texts selected by the speakers will also be part of the caravan.
Guests stay in the Spoleto area for two or three days accompanied by university student volunteers from the civil service, Carlo Bonilli and Leonardo Monarca, to find connections between the subject matter and the area.
Tommaso Giartosio arrived in Spoleto on Sunday 10 July to attend the final concert of the Festival of Two Worlds. In the days leading up to his ‘Street Lesson’, in addition to an institutional meeting with Mayor Andrea Sisti and Culture Councillor Danilo Chiodetti, visits to the main monuments in the city of Spoleto and excursions around the area are planned. Finally, a preliminary inspection where the meeting with the public will take place. Writer, poet, radio presenter, Tommaso Giartosio has published several books straddling essay, narration and reportage: Doppio ritratto (Fazi 1998, Bagutta opera prima prize), Perché non possiamo non dirci (Feltrinelli 2004), La città e l’isola (with Gianfranco Goretti, Donzelli 2006), L’O di Roma (Laterza 2012), Non aver mai finito di dire (Quodlibet 2017), and the verses of Come sarei felice (Einaudi 2019). He has translated or edited works by Hawthorne, Isherwood, Thackeray, and Waugh, has collaborated with various periodicals, is editor of “Nuovi argomenti“, and has hosted the Rai RadioTre programme “Fahrenheit” for many years.

After Tommaso Giartosio, the second scheduled appointment is Sunday 31 July at 18.30 in Morgnano – Mines’ Museum – Pozzo Orlando featuring Angelo Ferracuti who will meet the public to explore the theme of ‘Worker Cultures‘. The event is held in collaboration with the Associazione Amici delle Miniere.
Angelo Ferracuti (Fermo, 1960) is a writer. He has mainly published narrative hybrids, including Le risorse umane (Feltrinelli, 2006), Il costo della vita (Einaudi, 2013; with a photographic insert by Mario Dondero; Lo Straniero prize), Andare, camminare, lavorare (Feltrinelli, 2015), Addio (Chiarelettere, 2016), and the memoirs La metà del cielo (Mondadori, 2019) and Non ci resta che l’amore (Il Saggiatore, 2021). Soon to be published is the reportage with photographer Giovanni Marrozzini Viaggio sul fiume mondo (Mondadori, 2022). He collaborates with major Italian newspapers and with Rai Radio 3.
Finally, Thursday 4 August at 18.30 in Monteluco, Lorenzo Pavolini wil discuss “Telling Nature” in collaboration with the Monteluco Proloco.
Lorenzo Pavolini is deputy editor of the magazine Nuovi Argomenti.
