Over six minutes of applause graced the prologue of the 76th Experimental Opera Season

A large audience and thunderous applause for the Tragèdie de CARMEN that opened the 76th season of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto last night, in a Teatro Caio Melisso sold out in every order.
From the stalls and from all the boxes, the spectators lavished over six minutes of uninterrupted applause that drew the performers to the proscenium several times.
The theatre was packed with Italian and foreign tourists, music enthusiasts and opera lovers, who were moved and took part in the vicissitudes of the famous Seville cigar-maid.
Reruns of La Tragèdie de CARMEN continue on Friday 12 August at 6 p.m. and on Saturday 13 August, when two performances are scheduled, the first of which is part of the OPERA MEZZOGIORNO initiative and will be staged at 12 noon, while the second will be in the evening at 8.30 p.m.
The show clocks in at 80 minutes without intermission, thus allowing the audience to combine a dinner or lunch with a Spanish menu in one of the three restaurants that have enthusiastically joined the initiative (Tric Trac 0743.44592 / Il Panciolle 334.9317965 / Locanda della Signoria 0743.47752).
The highly applauded cast of the premiere consisted of mezzo-soprano Tamar Ugrekhelidze in the title role, soprano Alessia Merepeza (Micaela), tenor Carlo Eugenio Raffaelli (Don Josè), baritone Alfonso Michele Ciulla (Escamillo) and actors Matteo Prosperi, Valentino Pagliei and Raffaele De Vincenzi (in the roles of Zuniga, Lillas Pastia and Garcia respectively).
Also acclaimed by the audience with warm applause were director Alessio Pizzech, set designer Andrea Stanisci, costume designer Clelia De Angelis and light designer Eva Bruno.
The soloists of the Instrumental Ensemble of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale Orchestra were warmly appreciated and a special and moving tribute was paid to the conductor Carlo Palleschi, who in this 2022 season celebrates the 30th anniversary of his debut, which took place precisely with the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale in 1992 with the opera Un ballo in maschera by Giuseppe Verdi.
Tonight at 6.00 pm, appointment at the Teatro Caio Melisso for the second performance of La Tragédie de CARMEN. The cast will consist of mezzo-soprano Veronica Aracri in the eponymous role, soprano Maria Stella Maurizi (Micaela), tenor Oronzo D’Urso (Don Josè), baritone Alberto Petricca (Escamillo) and actors Matteo Prosperi, Valentino Pagliei and Raffaele De Vincenzi.
