Friday 21 October sees the opening of the third edition of “Spoleto Jazz 2022“, a festival dedicated to new talents in contemporary jazz that has become a traditional autumn event in the Umbrian city. The review is promoted and organised by Visioninmusica with the artistic direction of Silvia Alunni, will take place in its three appointments always within the evocative setting of the Teatro Caio Melisso – Spazio Carla Fendi, at 9 pm.
The choice for the kick-off concert went to a true guitar talent, the very young Matteo Mancuso, who will perform together with Riccardo Oliva on bass and Gianluca Pellerito on drums, to offer a mixed repertoire of covers he’s quite familiar with, but also unreleased tracks from his forthcoming debut album to be released by the end of 2022.

Born in 1996, Matteo Mancuso attended the high school of music in Palermo, where he studied classical guitar and transverse flute. He is currently attending the jazz guitar course at the Palermo Conservatory. An enfant prodige of the guitar, from an early age he has played with leading Sicilian musicians. He has continued over the years sharing the stage with the Sicily Stars and various other ensembles, including the duo with his father Vincenzo Mancuso, with whom he performs a repertoire ranging from Django Reinhardt to contemporary jazz, and the trio SNIPS, specialised in arrangements of standards in a jazzrock key, with Salvatore Lima on drums and Riccardo Oliva on bass.
A versatile guitarist, he nonchalantly shifts from classical to electric guitar, on which he has developed a personal, pickless technique that translates into a very original musical idiom. His YouTube channel is widely followed by a large international audience and he has received plaudits and expressions of esteem from, among others, Steve Vai, Dweezil Zappa, Al Di Meola, Joe Bonamassa and Stef Burns. In 2017, as part of the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, he won a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College in Boston. With the SNIPS he played at the festival “Les Nuits De La Guitare” in Patrimonio, Corsica, at Musikmesse 2018 in Frankfurt and at Umbria Jazz 2018, always to wide acclaim. In 2019, collaborating with Yamaha guitars, he took part in NAMM 2019, and in the “Young Guitar Festival” in Bangkok as a competition judge. The same year he went to Russia for a series of masterclasses in Moscow, St Petersburg and Perm.

Tickets (15,00 and 12,00€) are already on sale on Vivaticket; a 30,00€ subscription for the three concerts is available.
