“Mariannina”, by Silvana Sonno

Book presentation at the Public Library

Sunday 16 October at 17.00

On Sunday 16 October at 5 p.m. in the conference room of the Public Library of Palazzo Mauri in via Brignone, Silvana Sonno’s book ‘Mariannina’ will be presented.

The meeting will be attended by Rosella Benedetti del Rio with the members of the Pagine in Volo reading group, at the presence of the author.

Written between March and June 2020, the novel is set at the time of the pandemic, it unfolds between a present time of reflection and remembrance, and an unraveling past that brings to the surface buried, unknown realities.

In the context of a male-dominated society, the female characters struggle and clash with history. Among them is Lucilla, the protagonist, who, thanks to her niece Mariannina, unwitting deus ex machina of the story, gradually brings to light a personality that had previously been hiding in the meanders of her conscience.

Silvana Sonno lives in Perugia, where she has been teaching at high school for many years. Previously in Turin, she has been dealing with adult education in courses for workers (‘150 hours’). She was a founding member of the training and didactics magazine ‘Formazione ’80’, to which she contributed articles and investigations, until she moved to Umbria. She has long been involved in training for the ‘Rete delle donne AntiViolenza’ (Anti-Violence Women’s Network), set up to prevent and combat gender-based violence, of which she is a founding member. She has participated in numerous conferences on gender policies, in various contexts.

She has written works of fiction, poetry and non-fiction.

Her first novel Colpo di stecca was published in 2004 by the Milanese publishing house Nuove Scritture. She then published Il gioco delle nuvole, L’in/differenza del potere.
