Success at Palazzo Collicola and the Casa Romana for the European Night of Museums. Around 350 people attended the events scheduled in the two cultural spaces last Saturday. Apart from the attraction linked to the evening opening at the symbolic price of 1 euro, the important thing was the participation of the public over the three hours, the presence of many young people and the flattering reception given to the cultural proposals presented during the evening particularly at Palazzo Collicola.

While more than one hundred people visited the Casa Romana, around 250 people came to Palazzo Collicola for the programme of initiatives under the banner of contemporary art and creativity that took place on the museum’s three floors.

We are very satisfied because the European Night of Museums was created precisely to bring people closer to culture and art, thus allowing them to discover our heritage,’ – said cuncillor Danilo Chiodetti, who attended the evening – ‘This search for dialogue between different forms of art presented by director Verini, the feedback and the warm participation of the attendees are all elements that go in the right direction. We want to bring our museums to life and ensure that citizens have the pleasure of being there and participating.

In addition to the opening of the exhibition spaces and the special guided tour of the Palazzo Collicola collection, entitled ‘Fausto Melotti: music becomes sculpture‘, Spoleto inhabitants and tourists were able to attend the intervention of the INC innprogress collective, a company that, in collaboration with La Mama Umbria International, presented the dance performance ‘Fragments‘, choreographed by Afshin Varjavandi and with the participation of the dancers Giorgia Aluigi, Chiara Morelli, Chiara Perretti and Emma Viceconti. For the European Night of Museums, director Saverio Verini also gave space to music, with a double sound intervention by Carlo Bonilli, in dialogue with the works of the permanent collection of contemporary art.

Participation was really encouraging and the numbers confirm the good start we were hoping for – were the words by the director of the city museums, Saverio VeriniDespite the objective time constraints, we managed to present artistic and cultural proposals that were very positively received by the public, the result of a virtuous collaboration with some of the many realities of the territory. There are also two aspects that I consider worthy of note: the first concerns the generational variety, i.e. the presence of an audience composed of young people, adults, families, and children, a sign of a liveliness and interest that is indispensable for museum life. The second is related to the concept of interdisciplinarity, with music and dance that have dialogued, with great care and delicacy, with the heritage and museum collections. Looking ahead, we will work to ensure that our museums are increasingly able to welcome diverse audiences and to confirm their vocation as places of research, study and experimentation. And this will certainly be facilitated by the presence of so many truly vital cultural energies in the fabric of Spoleto.
