PIETRO CONSAGRA – CONVERSATIONS
Mezz’ora dopo la chiusura, the event organized by Sistema Museo, waits for you on Friday 19 October 2018 at 19.30 at Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive.
The meeting will focus on Pietro Consagra, the great Sicilian artist of whom Spoleto boasts a rich collection thanks to his friendship with Giovanni Carandente: the famous art critic invited him, in 1962, to take part in Sculture nella Città (Sculptures in the City), the exhibition later defined by Consagra as “the largest international sculpture event ever held in a city”. Through the sculptural and pictorial works preserved in the Carandente Museum, we will retrace the career of the maestro, who donated to Spoleto the work that can still be admired today in one of the streets of the historic center.
The visit will be followed by an aperitif, thanks to the collaboration with Con Spoleto – the Spoleto hotel managers’ association.

The meetings are linked to La Domenica dei Sogni family theatre festival and will be held on the Saturdays preceding the Sunday shows, at 11 a.m. at the Municipal Library.
Through an image, a piece of text or a theatre play, the main theme of each show will be explored: friendship, relationship, diversity, insecurities, the desire for poetry.

Tell me what you eat, I’ll tell you who you are. Strolling through food, art and landscapes to discover the city
Art and flavours of the ancient Duchy of Spoleto
A dive into the past, when Spoleto was the capital of the Longobard duchy (568–774), among architectural evidences, new and old landscapes, and flavours handed down across the centuries.
The hike will start from Colle Ciciano, where there are the basilica of the Holy Saviour (San Salvatore), the ecclesia baptismalis of St. Michael Archangel (inspired by the Longobard military cult) and the funerary area of St. Pontianus, from which comes Agipertus’ funerary slab.
The hike goes on toward the National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto, that keeps funerary outfits coming from the oldest necropolis we know, as well as architectural features that testify to the existence of Longobard marble workshops.
Through piazza del Duomo you will reach Palazzo Pianciani, and then Palazzo Mauri, where it will be possible to taste Longobard dishes, thanks to the Istituto Alberghiero Turistico di Spoleto “G. De Carolis”.

Spoleto is located at the southern end of the Valle Umbra, a vast alluvial plain generated in prehistoric times by the presence of a vast lake, the lacus Umber, drained definitively in the Middle Ages, after its swamping, with recalamation. The city developed on the hill Sant’Elia, a low promontory at the foot of Monteluco, and down to the banks of the Tessino river; it is surrounded to the East by the mountains that border the Valnerina.
ROUTE
The first stage of the walk is the Sentiero degli Ulivi (Olive Groves Path), which from Eggi arrives in Poreta, crossing the hilly territory that borders, to the East, the southern Umbrian Valley. The path, created by some members of the local section of the CAI (Italian Alpine Club), was born with the intent to promote and enhance the Spoleto – Assisi olive belt, included in the national register of rural and historical landscapes of the Ministry of Agriculture, a FAO agricultural heritage of worldwide importance, and a good candidate to be listed as a UNESCO cultural site. The route, splendidly immersed in the landscape of the Umbrian Valley, winds through terraces and dry stone walls that are now abandoned and a series of small urban settlements born in Roman times to escape the progressive swamping of the Spoleto plain. Full of history, mysticism, religion, art, nature and silence, the Sentiero degli Ulivi is mostly located at altitudes ranging between 400 and 600 m above sea level, overcoming manageable gradients, which make it easily accessible to hikers with a good basic preparation.

The St. Petersburg Ballet, one of the most famous dance corps in the world, will perform on November 22, 2018 at 21.00 at Spoleto’s Teatro Nuovo “Gian Carlo Menotti”.
Who does not know the fairy tale of the beautiful princess who falls asleep for a hundred years victim of a curse launched by the evil witch? The story of Aurora, Prince Desiré and the Lilac fairy, so dear to children, are at the heart of one of the ballet masterpieces of the nineteenth century, Sleeping Beauty.
Among the Ballet Masterpieces of the nineteenth century, Sleeping Beauty represents the top of classical expression, in an atmosphere of abstraction, with more emphasis on pure dance than on narration. With its fabulous and enchanted sets and costumes, the wonderful music by P.I. TCajkovskij and choreography by Marius Petipa, Sleeping Beauty is considered one of the greatest ballets of Imperial Russia and one of the most enchanting productions of the St. Petersburg Ballet.
