LECTURAE DANTIS 2017
From 6 October to 21 December at the Public Library, Palazzo Mauri
After the success of the last years, the integral reading of Dante’s Divine Comedy resumes from October 6 to December 21, each Friday afternoon at 17 by the Public library in Palazzo Mauri; this leg includes the reading of 11 cantos from the Paradise, from the XIIth to the XXIInd.
Readings will be by actor Claudio Trionfi, with comments by academics co-ordinated by professor Rodney John Lokaj.
During the event, (October through December) some editions of the Divine Comedy owned by the Public Library will be on display, including the 1484 Venetian incunabulus commented by Cristoforo Landino (1424 – 1498).
Nine cycles of reading have already taken place, that featured the first two canticas, and Hell’s first 11 cantos. The experience shows the modern interest in Dante and his work.
Lectura Dantis is a specific form of divulgation à haute voix, historically well defined and codified, which originated in the XIVth century thanks to Giovanni Boccaccio, and evolved through the ages, yet respecting the traditional interconnection between verse reading and exegetical comment.

What is life like in an Italian small town? Michele, Stella, Elisa and Caroline are four guys from Todi. A fifth character, a documentarist, connects fiction to reality observing and noting the features of the city and its inhabitants. What is life like in a place where everybody knows everyone? What should you rather avoid doing in Todi? These are but some of the questions that were actually asked to more than a hundred people in Todi, that the play aims at giving back through a collage that supports the story of the four protagonists.
Saturday 20 January at 21 at the Teatro Nuovo, the Györ Ballet Company (one of the oldest, most praised European contemporary dance companies) will stage two masterpieces, Maurice Ravel’s Bolero and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.

The fascist regime didn’t choose one. It counted 1238 and cut twelve, casual heroes of those who only have left an extreme resource of dignity, that of refusal. This happened on 13 November 1931. The theatre play tells the story of one of them.
Thursday 8 March at 21 at the Teatro Nuovo, the closing play will be Rosalind Franklin. Il segreto della vita by Anna Ziegler, directed by Filippo Dini, featuring Asia Argento, Filippo Dini. As part of the XIV National Urban Trekking Day, whose theme will be Trekking amidst mysteries and legends, the city of Spoleto proposes an itinerary entitled
FROM THE LEGEND OF THE STAR TO LUCRETIA BORGIA’S INTRIGUES
Many legends populate Spoleto’s age-old history, related to local facts and characters. Among the most mysterious ones you certainly find the Miraculous Star, which originated one of the first orphanages on European soil, ruled by Augustinians Nuns. Following the nuns you will reach the church of St. Pontianus, with a first stop at the Roman Ponte Sanguinario, beheading place of Spoleto’s patron saint. The legend mentions it as the arrival point of an underground tunnel from the Rocca that was never found. The ancient fortress’ highest tower is also known as “the possessed one”; the remembering of charming Lucretia Borgia still lingers there; after coming to Spoleto aged 19, she was appointed city governor by her father, pope Alexander VI.

LIBRO D’ INGRESSO (Entrance Book) is a special event’s formula inaugurated last spring, in collaboration with the direction of Cinema Sala Pegasus and with the support of Spoleto’s Department of Culture. Its creators, V. Maticora and L. G. Santiago, present three new evenings of shows combined with three books.
The recipe is always the same: the entrance “ticket” is the book from which the performance of words, music and everything else is based.
The successful public participation of the previous edition encouraged organizers to repeat the experiment and involve even more subjects in the attempt to create a real creative workshop around the idea of “short literature”.
The performances will take place in November, on the stage of Sala Pegasus, with three different forms of staging.
On NOVEMBER 10 the series of events will be inaugurated by #SIneNOmine company, an art project involving the prison in Maiano. The company will present LA LETTERA U, with a performance taken from the work of Iginio Ugo Tarchetti, scapigliato writer of the second half of the nineteenth century. Interpreters: Diletta Masetti and Roberto di Sibbio for
On NOVEMBER 16, Italian actor and dubber Pietro Biondi will bring on stage CREATURE NON PERVENUTE, an imaginary bestiary that collects stories of absurd and improbable living beings written by Luis Gabriel Santiago.
On NOVEMBER 23, AI PIEDI DELLA NOTTE, a collection of poetry and prose by Rutilio Clivi, will conclude the cycle of the Entrance Book. The show will be played by actors Cristina Antonini and Maurizio Armellini together with the singer Nyla van Ingen, who will perform the lieder composed by maestro Stefano Taglietti – also on stage – taken from the volume’s poems.

Wednesday 22 November at 21.30, at the Sala Pegasus, film director Sandro Baldoni will introduce his documentary La botta grossa – Storie da dentro il terremoto.
It is the story of the 30 October 2016 earthquake that hit Central Italy with the strongest shock in 40 years. Baldoni was born and grew in the area of the Sibillini Mountains, devastated by the seismic event.
Starting from his own pulled-down house, and from his own mood, Baldoni travels across the deep fears, traumas, states of anxiety, rage and hopes of the people, in what is a travel from the interior. The meeting will be moderated by Roberto Lazzerini.
The evening will be opened by the short movie Mi vedrai correre (You’ll See Me Running) by independent film-makers ‘The Stairway Production‘ that aims at sending out a message to all those who suffered many a great loss, yet keep on struggling. The short movie was realized by film director Duccio Brunetti and features Riccardo Pompili, Nicolò Marchi, Alessandro Elisei, Diletta Masetti, Mirko Peruzzi, Nicolas Mari. It was selected for participation in the 2018 David di Donatello short movies competition.

La botta grossa – Storie da dentro il terremoto is a story made by those who were forced out of their homes, like its director himself. The story is the same that was told by the media, but it has a different tone that swerves away from the Breaking News. It faithfully talks of what happens in a year to those who lost almost everything. It teaches how to survive while waiting for the recovery. It is not only a matter of pain, loss or dismay; it also includes a flash of the will, of humanity and self-organization. There is no rhetoric, replaced by irony, the warmth of a pun, of a smile. “Stop surviving, start to live!” Let’s all shake up, after the shocks.
Thus Baldoni undertakes his road-movie among dismal roads, forced stayings by the sea in winter, jury-rigged schools, gyms turned to psychologist studios and stories told by the elders, or a hermit who does something that represents thousands. In La botta grossa you cry and you laugh, while rebuilding a sustainable Newmanity. A film that talks of some people somewhere, to all Italian citizens.
Presentation of the book ” Tu con me” by Roberta Salvati and Veronica Fermani, preface by Catena Fiorello.
