Europe’s Biggest Crib

A life-size monumental work in terracotta, wood and papier-mâché by Master of Cribs Mario Agrestini, has been set in Spoleto at the former City Museum, in via Duomo. It is Europe’s Biggest Crib.

The crib is a representation of the ancient farming world stretching across over 700 sq.m. and is inspired by XVth-cen artisan works. The crib has already been on display in 2010 in Rome, in the Sala del Campidoglio. The characters’ clothes are partly handmade, partly from Jordan, as well as all accessories of both characters and animals represented.

The initiative was organized by PROLOCO di Spoleto, and listed in the End-Of-The-Year Events programme organized by the City of Spoleto. It is visitable until Jan 14th, 2016, from 10.30 to 13 and from 15 to 18.

Other visitable cribs in town are those by artist Mauro Scarabottini at the Spoleto Railway Station (25 sq.m. wide, almost totally made in re-used materials), the interregional Cribs Art Exhibition dedicated to artists from the Marche at the former Monte di Pietà, the exhibition Miniature Cribs by Antonio Santoro at the Sala degli Ori in via Saffi, the Cribs Way in via Fontesecca, at the Public Library in Palazzo Mauri, at the Maestre Pie Filippini Convent, and at the Hospice by the Spoleto Hospital. Other cribs were set inside the Convent of St. Francis in Monteluco and in the convent of Sant’Ansano.

Besides, the initiative CRIB IN THE FAMILY has reached its 6th edition, a competition that selects the best household crib; interested families can apply for participation by filling out the form available at the Prospoleto (deadline 20 December).
